If your recertification or reinstatement application was returned, PTCB's review of your application identified that your application did not fulfill continuing education (CE) requirements.

If additional CE activities have been or need to be completed outside of your recertification cycle, see “Requesting to Reinstate” below.

Common Reasons for the CPhT Renewal Application Return:

  • Missing 20 hours total CE hours
  • CE hours completed outside of your recertification cycle
  • Less than 15 pharmacy technician-specific CE hours
    • PTCB allows a maximum of 5 pharmacist-specific CE hours (optional)
  • Missing 1 hour of pharmacy law CE (2 hours for reinstatement)
  • Missing 1 hour of patient safety CE
  • Proof of completion was missing information

Example Account - CPhT Recertification Application

Application NOT in compliance:

  • Total CEs: Application has 21.5 (requires 20)
  • T-specific: Application has 21.5 (requires at least 15)
  • P-specific: Application has 0 (allows up to 5)
  • Pharmacy Law (03 topic designator): Application has 0 (requires 1)
  • Patient Safety (05 topic designator): Application has 2 (requires 1)

Your CE hours must be earned within your recertification cycle. This cycle begins when your last recertification was approved and ends on your certification expiration date. Hours earned outside this period don’t count.

Next Steps for Resubmitting an Application:

In order to correct your application and continue with the renewal process, you must resubmit your application within 30 days of the application return.

  1. Verify all CE requirements were met within your recertification cycle and meet PTCB requirements
    •  Don’t resubmit your application with ineligible CE hours.
  2. Verify your proof of completion documentation includes:
    • Your name
    • Program title
    • Completion date
    • CE provider name
    • Awarded CE hours
  3. Resubmit your application with proof of completion documentation of any missing CEs by the deadline.

Important: PTCB does not accept Microsoft Excel spreadsheets or Word documents, handwritten CEs, or any documentation not submitted on a provider’s official letterhead. To ensure CE activities are accounted for, please combine multiple PDF files into a single document rather than individual files.

The reinstatement link is available until one year after your certification expiration date. If you miss this deadline, you’ll need to reapply for certification, meet eligibility requirements, and pass the PTCE.
