Currently, PTCB does not require the enrollment in or completion of any training or college programs in order to apply for certification and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE).
At this time, to achieve PTCB Certification, candidates must satisfy the following eligibility requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent educational diploma (e.g., a GED or foreign diploma)
- Full disclosure of all criminal and State Board of Pharmacy registration or licensure actions
- Compliance with all applicable PTCB Certification policies
- Passing score on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE)
By 2020, PTCB will require the completion of a ASHP-accredited program in order to be eligible to take the PTCE. PTCB is currently working to finalize the details of this program change, which was announced in 2013 as part of the C.R.E.S.T. Initiative (more information on the C.R.E.S.T. Initiative can be found here). Once details are finalized, PTCB will share information through its website at ptcb.org.
