How is the PTCE® changing in 2020?

The content of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE®) will be updated on January 1, 2020. 

The previous nine knowledge domains making up the contents of the PTCE will be reduced to four:

  • Medications (40% of exam)
  • Federal Requirements (12.5%)
  • Patient Safety and Quality Assurance (26.25%)
  • Order Entry and Processing (21.25%)

Note on CPhT applications and exam versions:

Any application submitted and approved on or before December 31, 2019 will provide authorization to take the version of the PTCE being replaced on January 1, 2020. Any application submitted and approved on or after January 1, 2020 will provide authorization to take the updated version of the PTCE.
