The CPhT Emeritus program requires an active CPhT certification in good standing. Please note, renewal candidates with an expired CPhT certification status due to a returned renewal application cannot use the Emeritus program to obtain an updated certification status. More information on next steps is available here.
Beginning in August 2019, PTCB allows eligible inactive CPhTs to request a CPhT Emeritus status. This allows inactive and retired certificants to maintain a status of professional distinction. The Emeritus status designation represents that the former certificants are not actively working as PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technicians.
Starting in March 2020, a CSPT Emeritus status allows eligible inactive CSPTs to request a CSPT Emeritus status.
Who’s Eligible?
A CPhT certificant in good standing is eligible for CPhT Emeritus status if:
- the CPhT has been certified by PTCB for at least ten (10) years;
- the CPhT is no longer practicing as a pharmacy technician;
- the CPhT is not currently employed as a pharmacy technician; and
- the CPhT otherwise satisfies all applicable PTCB policies and requirements.
A CSPT certificant in good standing is eligible for CSPT Emeritus status if:
- the CSPT has been certified as a CPhT by PTCB for at least ten (10) years;
- the CSPT is no longer compounding sterile preparations;
- the CSPT otherwise satisfies all applicable PTCB policies and requirements.
Requirements and Fees
A Emeritus status applicant is required to pay a one-time Emeritus status fee for each certification. Please note: certificants granted Emeritus status are not required to satisfy PTCB recertification requirements, including continuing education (CE) credit rules, or to pay certification renewal fees.
How to Use Your New Status
Certificants granted CPhT Emeritus or CSPT Emeritus status can use the PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or CSPT Emeritus status designation. The PTCB CPhT Emeritus and PTCB CSPT Emeritus status designations and marks may be displayed on a resume and similar materials, so long as the years of active PTCB certification are identified with the designation. Example of proper use of Emeritus status designation:
Joanne Smith
PTCB CPhT Emeritus (CPhT 2000-2010)
Malcolm Reynolds
CSPT Emeritus (CSPT 2017-2020)
